Busy with Great Things!

We've been so busy lately. It's been good, though. We're seeing lots of our friends and families. I tried to make this in order, but I'm not sure if I got this right.

A few weeks ago, we went to our friends' Don & Farleigh's place for their cordial tasting. I'd never heard of cordial before, so I had to look it up. Basically, it's the process where you submerge alcohol and fruit with some spices and jar it for a few months. When ready, you strain (with cheese cloth) into a pouring bottle (maybe like a wine bottle or something similar).

Here are some that they had already finished the process. Once they've been sitting for a while (after stained), you can not taste the alcohol as much.

Here are the containers while still soaking in the alcohol. They have limes, pears, plums and some others.

The actual process.

It was a fun night and we met some cool people. I think we may try to make this ourselves when strawberries come in season.
The next day, we may our way to the snow. We usually went to Boreal resort. In order to sled their hills, you now have to pay and only sled/play in the now in a restricted area. That sucked (it was over $20 for 2 hours). I knew we could find a place for free. We ended up in Truckee.
We found this place that was probably a park without the snow and other people were playing in the snow and sledding down the hills. Completely free!! We parked across the street and made our way.

So many people had gone down these hills that there were so many huge dips in the hills and then the trees were also an obstacle. Here, Jason just missed the huge dip in the center and ran by the trees and ended up in the shallow creek. Good thing we were dressed in water proof clothes.

The snow was awesome that day. It was actually a little warm. If we weren't in the snow, I would have taken off my jacket.

The next day, I had my 1st 10k (6.2 miles) race. It was at Sac State and was a Super Bowl theme (since it was Super Bowl Sunday). Here I am before the race started.

The race was nice. I don't know if I've mentioned it in this blog, but I was sidelined from running near the holidays. I had an injured knee and was unable to run. I needed to stay off of it as much as possible. I did physical therapy for a few months and then finally worked up to being able to run a few miles at a time. Now, I'm up to 8 miles.

Here I ma coming up to the finish line. The race was a challenge, but felt great! I had only a slight pain on the left knee (the injured one) coming down the last hill. It was so good.

After the race, they supplied nachos (very weak on cheese), hot dogs and beer. It was a fun race that I will probably run next year. I only have 69 days until my 1/2 marathon (April 30th). I can't wait!
After the race, we went home and got cleaned up. Afterwards, we headed to our friend, Eric's place. he had a little Super Bowl party. great food was eaten and games were played. It was a fun night!

The following weekend, we had a 16 year old birthday party to go to. I was nice to see family that we haven't seen in a while. It was outside at a park and they served BBQ food. It was another great day!

A few weeks ago, I made Indian food for our international dish. We had some yummy chicken, green beans and naan. We couldn't get over how much we liked the naan (bread). It was a really good dinner.

This month, I will make Greek food. I'm not sure exactly what, yet. But, it will be good! I love making this type of stuff once a month. Some other things that I've been making from scratch are: apple butter, apple sauce, granola (bars) and so much more that I can't think of right now.
