Jason and I had passes for flying from our trip to Europe that we needed to use before the end of May. We decided to go to Los Angeles. I hadn't really explored it before and wanted to look around. We left early in the morning of Friday and picked up our rental car and headed out to Marina Del Ray. My boss told me about this really cute restaurant. It was right on the marina and it had a great view of the boats coming in and out. The food was good as well as the service.
After walking around the marina for a few hours, we headed out to our hotel (about 10 minutes from the airport) and took a nap. I really wanted to go out and bar hop all night. Since it was an early morning, we needed our rest. I had already looked up some popular bars that we wanted to go to and got the correct maps and everything else we needed for that night, so we knew exactly where we wanted to go...Manhattan Beach. We took the trolley to Manhattan Beach. Since we just woke up, we needed some coffee and ended up at the Coffee Bean (which is WAY better than Starbucks). After that, we started at a bar called Hennesy's (Irish pub) and had some beers and some Irish nachos (I didn't know they were made with potatoes...very good). The next bar was the ever so popular Sharkeez. That place was where everyone was. It was so crowded. Jason wanted something less noisy, so we went about a block away to another pub (which I can't remember the name of). We had a blast that night and met some interesting people.
On Saturday, we got up and went for a drive around Rodeo Drive. I've never been there. Once you see it tv, you've seen it. I was not impressed at all. I hate shopping and snobby people, so it had nothing for me. Except, we came across the Second Saturday. I think they had much better items there than we do here (not to offend any local artists).
We then back to our hotel and got cleaned up and changed (it was a warmer day). I had directions and a map to our comedy club, Upright Citizens Brigade, and it showed it was near the Hollywood Bowl. I would guess that google screwed us about 4 miles away from where we were supposed to be. I don't think we ever walked that fast. It seemed like it took forever, but it only took about 45 minutes (once we figured out where we were supposed to be going). We thought it was a lot closer, so we decided to walk. Oh well, we needed to walk off the food we've been eating.
It seemed like they were waiting for us. We got the last seats in the house (only holds about 100 people). It was very close and so hilarious. We had so much fun. The walk back to our car didn't seem to take so long, because we weren't in such a rush. We enjoyed all the freaks that were out on Hollywood Blvd. Very interesting at night.
We made it back to our car, and headed out to Pink's. This is a famous hot dog place. A lot of celebrities have been there and I think it's been in some movies. The line is always so long. I think we waited about 1 hour to get to the counter. http://www.pinkshollywood.com/ I don't like chili cheese hot dogs and this was the best I've ever had. Jason got a spicy Polish chili cheese dog and we shared a side of onion ring and their homemade ranch. This was the best food on the trip. We were so full afterwards, we could barely make it to the car.
Sunday, we spent the day at he Santa Monica Pier. I've never been there before and I wanted to enjoy the experience. It was nice at first, as nice as a fair can be. We got bored, so we started towards Venice Beach. Now, there are always some freaky people to watch. We love people watching, it's a hobby of ours. We had a nice dinner at a Mexican restaurant and walked back to Santa Monica Pier. I really wanted to go on the Farris wheel and look at the city, so we did (after Jason won me the cutest stuffed puppy). It was such a cold night, I'm glad we ended up buying sweatshirts on Venice Beach. We defiantly didn't bring clothes for warmth (I even checked the weather before we left).
We had Monday morning and afternoon all to our selves (which means I didn't plan us on doing anything). At the last minute, we decided to go to the Getty, but it was closed on Mondays. We ended up driving to Malibu and down the coast on Hwy 1. It was such a nice drive. We saw a lot of surfers, fancy houses and beautiful beaches. It was great. We ended up in San Pedro and had the best pizza (close to Cool River) and a great beer. We went straight up 10 and got to our Dodgers baseball game. I've only been to one MLB game (the Mariners with David a few years a go). This was a fun game, it was out after out and some great plays. The Dodgers, of course, won the game 6 to 2. They killed the Atros. Since it was such a cold night and we had to get up early the next morning to get home, we went back to our hotel and relaxed.
This was such a great long weekend. It was sad that Jason had to work on Tuesday. I didn't want to see him go. We had such a great time together (which we don't get that much of because of our schedules). I love spending as much time with the love of my life as I possibly can. I'm such a lucky woman to have such a great man as my husband. Boy did I get lucky!
