After dinner on the wharf
A drink the bartender made while we were waiting for a table
Sunset from the wharf
I could stay here forever
Looking at the boardwalk from the wharf
How cool!
Lots of barking going on
Almost sunset
On the roller coaster
Getting ready to go out
This is where Cruz came from
What great aim
It's a trick
So many people
So close
Fun shooting
On the beach
Jason's castle before the tide took it over
Last weekend, we went to Santa Cruz. We went for two reasons. The first, I've never been there before. The second, it was Jason's four day birthday. We booked a cheap little hotel about a 1/4 mile from the boardwalk. We wanted to make sure we could just walk where ever we were going.
On Saturday morning, we woke up early and left for our little road trip. It didn't take us too long to get there. It was such a nice drive. I loved all the trees and how green it was. We got lucky, it was the perfect weekend to go there. It was about 83 degrees during the day, and sunny. Of course, at night, it was very cold.
When we got there, we were already wearing our swimsuits. We just dropped our stuff off and headed to the boardwalk. As I've seen on TV, lots of people and lots of food and games. It was such a perfect day! Our deal was, I was to let Jason build his sand castle, if he went on a roller coaster with me. I did that. He finished just in enough time. The tide took it over, just after he finished and let some kids try to protect it.
We went back to our hotel and Jason dropped off his stuff, and we hit up the boardwalk festivities. As our agreement said, he went on a roller coaster with me. It was pretty weak (I'm use to Great America roller coasters), but fun. Jason played some games and won me my little duck. His name is "Cruz". I love him! It was getting pretty cold, and I was still in my swimsuit, so I needed to get back and get cleaned up, so we could eat.
We walked the wharf, and saw lots of animals. There were a lot of sea lions, and one bird that didn't care how close you came up to him. So cool! We found this little place with great clam chowder. If you know me, you know I'm not a big fan of sea food. The two thing I"ll eat are crab cakes (my fav!) or halibut. Of course, I got crab cakes. They were great. I also tried their clam chowder, and it was really good. After dinner, we headed out to find something to do. (It was sooo cold.) We ended up playing some arcade games and won a lot of tickets. We got some toys! This was a weekend of being children (which is the best!).
The next day, we left to go home, but needed food so bad. We wanted to at least get to San Jose before we ate. I guess we missed all the food, because we went straight to Milpitas and finally found a Denny's. We were starved! The drive home was long (as it usually is when you just want to get home). We finally made and were so tired. My mom was still there, from watching our child (Roxy). Thanks, mom, for watching her, and our TV.
Such a great trip and I was able to mark something off my list of CA things to do before we move. More places to come (hopefully sooner than later). I know there are a lot of pictures, but I love taking them and I love to share them!
I loved your story and all the pictures but I hate to break your bubble but you have been to San Cruz a lot of times mom
