Me & Jason after the race
Here I come
Waiting for the stupid annoucements to be done with
On Sunday, I had my first race of he year. It was a 5K. What a good cause. This race was for deaf kids that couldn't afford to go to camp. This race isn't advertised as much as other races are (run to feed the hungry, or susan g. komen to name a few). I like to participate in races that don't get a lot of PR to try to help them out.
I was able to convince Jason to tag along with me (he didn't race). What a great husband I have to get up after only 3 hours of sleep and watch me run. Doesn't that sound like an exciting Sunday morning?? He supports my so much with the things I love to do. I love him so much.
Any ways, enough mushy stuff and back to the race. There weren't a lot of people that participated this year (this is my 2nd year of this race). The course was in and around Maidu Park in Roseville. This course was very flat and fast. i did race with my new boyfriend. Jason actually picked him out for me. His name is Garmin and is the new love of my life. (Of course Garmin is a GPS watch and not an actual guy.) With this watch I was able to track my distance and time of each mile. because this was such a "cheap" race, nothing was mile marked. I like knowing how far I've gone and what my time is along the way.
There was something that made Jason laugh. He was keeping me company while they made their annoucements (that they make at every race). There weren't a lot of people around, so we could see evryone waiting. There was this lesbian couple (female) and they slyly checked me out). Jason just started laughing and couldn't tell me right away what he was laughing about. He was very proud that I am all his.
I did start the race too fast. My first mile with about 9:32, the second moved to 10:25 and the last was 10:45. My finishing time was 31:57 (my PR (personal record) is 31:28). I cam in 5th out of the girls. I guess this wasn't so bad, and I had a nice place. It just wasn't what I wanted. Now, I know that I need to train harder
I plan on racing in another race this June. It is in Lincoln and for children that have cancer in the nervous tissue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroblastoma). I plan on a new PR. I'm hoping for anything in the 30:00 minute range. I won't care if it is 30:59. I will be bale to do this because of my new boyfriend.
I have made a plan for myself. I will try to qualify (run a 26.2 marathon within 3:45) for Boston within 5 years. It will be extremely hard. I do want to try out my half marathon in May 2011 first. Buy, Boston in defiantly in my radar. I have high hopes for myself and I know this will become an accomplishment and not just a dream. I will qualify (with a lot of blood, sweat tears and black toe nails)!
