Beautiful flowers on the way
So peaceful
Trying to take a picture with the waterfall behind us, but it was too bright
Looking at the waterfall
The 410 foot waterfall.
Little valley
Do you see the lizard (they were everywhere, too)
Small waterfall behind us
Here is the small waterfall
Here's small portion of the trail
We love hiking. I've been wanting to go for a while. I asked Jason where he wanted to go. Since we've seen every inch of Auburn, we decided to go further out of town. On Sunday, we got up at 6am to drive a few hours to Oroville. I don't remember ever coming to this area. It is defiantly a little town.
This waterfall was in the middle of nowhere. We had to drive about 12 miles on this little one lane road, left make a left for another 6 miles and another left for another 6 miles. The hike was 5 miles there. and 4 miles back.
On the waterfall website (http://www.waterfallswest.com/page.php?id=regionca), the guy recommended getting there pretty early because a lot of people show up pretty late and it gets crowded. We were on the trail by 9am and there weren't a lot of cars there. In the beginning, there is a fork in the trail offering a 3.3 mile trail and a 4.5 mile trail. The guy recommended the longer trail there and the shorter back. He said the shorter trail was so steep, it would take just as long. We took his recommendation. I am glad we did, because there were so many babbling brooks and we even saw a smaller waterfall than we were aiming for. I was stoked just to see this waterfall, we could have turned around and I would have been happy.
Of course, when we got there, it was cold and there were a lot of mosquitoes. The 4.5 mile trail was pretty easy. When this trail met up with the shorter trail, they combined. The last .5 miles (of the total 5 miles) was completely up hill. It looked like they were trying to pave it, or it was paved at one time. It wasn't that hard of a trail, we've seen worst.
When we got closer to the 410 foot tall waterfall was making so much noise, you could hear it for miles. It was so pretty and loud when we got there. There was a overlook with some benches, so we had our snack and took in the scenery. It was great. This was the tallest waterfall I've ever seen in person. There was this little old man eating lunch on the bench and he smiled at us. He was so cute with his mouth full and dried not running down his face.
On the way back, again, we took the guys' advice and took the shorter trail back. This guy is such a lyre. It was completely up hill. It was one continuous 3.5 mile hill. Jason tried to be cute and chase me up a portion of the hill and he ended pulling a muscle with about 2.5 miles left. I felt so bad, I would go ahead and wait for him a little. I always hate being in pain while hiking and it makes me feel better when he waits for me. It was a little strange be in the front the entire time. Usually, I'm so slow, I'm way in the back. It was different. We finally got back to the truck and there were probably about 30 cars parked (in a pretty small parking lot). I''m glad we listened to him on this part.
On the way, we needed gas. We stopped in town at Chevron (since we have a card there). This is such small town, they ran out of gas, or something. We asked the lady that worked there, where another Chevron is. She replied "We're the only ones in town". So cute, having only one Chevron in town. We found a random gas station and filled up. After our 9 mile hike, we were starving. We were both craving burgers. I saw "Charlie's burgers". We stopped there. It didn't look busy from the outside. It was pretty busy inside. It was expensive, but the best burger we've had for a while. Everything inside was covered in car pictures and licence plates. Everyone inside were talking about working on their cars. It seems like that is the only thing there is to do around there. BEST burgers in such a long time. Everything we went through that day was defiantly worth it. We had so much fun and went home full.
